Welcome in.
The hotel from 1889 was out of operation for many years. We have restored it piece by piece, with care for the building’s history and original features, and added small details to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Once again, the timber walls are filled with life, and the tables with food made from ingredients sourced straight from the nature around us. We hope you feel inspired, relax with family and friends, and choose to stay a while.

A warm welcome to you.
To be surrounded by walls older than ourselves, to walk on floors visibly worn by generations past, to preserve what is and what once was—that gives us meaning and immense joy.

In the 1800s, tourism blossomed in Hardanger. Wealthy Europeans sought to experience raw, untouched nature, clean water, and fresh air.
Here in Sundal, they encountered steep waterfalls, the glacier lake Bondhusvatnet, were guided across Folgefonna by local glacier guides, and rowed on the fjord surrounded by the stunning nature of western Norway.
The old hotel still stands, and thankfully, so does the reason for visiting—raw Norwegian nature with rich biodiversity in Folgefonna National Park just outside the door.
